These are typical US ranges. The South usually starts earlier and the North later, and weather shifts things every year, so check with the farm. See the month by month picking calendar.

What should I bring to a u-pick farm?

Water, sun protection, closed-toe shoes that can get muddy, hand wipes and a way to pay. On hot days bring a cooler for the drive home. Bring your own containers only if the farm allows it. For Christmas trees add gloves, a tape measure and straps. See our first u-pick visit guide and the choose-and-cut checklist.

Do farms take cards or only cash?

Many farms take cards, but small farms and farm stands may be cash only or have slow card readers with weak cell signal. Bring some cash to be safe, and check the farm's website.

How is u-pick priced?

Usually by the pound, by the container (a bucket, basket or bag you fill), or with an entry fee that may or may not include what you pick. Christmas trees are often one flat price per tree, priced by height or priced by species. Prices change by season and region, so we never list them.

How do I pick a good Christmas tree?

Measure your ceiling and floor space first. At the farm, walk all the way around the tree, check the trunk is fairly straight and run a branch through your hand: a fresh tree should not shed many green needles. Firs are the all-rounders; spruces are sturdy but sharp. Read how to pick a real Christmas tree.

Can I bring my dog?

Check with the farm. Many u-pick farms do not allow pets in picking fields for food safety reasons, while some welcome leashed dogs in certain areas. Ask the farm how it handles service animals.

How do I check hours before I go?

Use the farm's own website or social media, or call. Each farm page links to the website when the listing has one and gives directions. Fields can close early when they are picked out or after heavy rain, so check the same day.

Where do the listings come from, and how current are they?

From public directories: the USDA Local Food Directories (agritourism and on-farm markets) and the National Christmas Tree Association farm locator. We combine them, remove duplicates and tag activities using only the words in each listing. Many listings were last updated in 2024, so each farm page shows its listing date. We never guess hours or prices.

How does a farm add or fix its listing?

Use our contact form or email [email protected]. Adding, fixing or removing a listing is free. Farms can also pay to be featured at the top of their city and state pages, and featured spots are always labeled. See how featuring works.
